Perennial (tender) grown as an annual. 'Mikado' poppy with its stunning, saucer-shaped, bright orange-red flowers adds loads of color when planted en masse. Dramatic sun lovers; flowers open in sunlight and close on cloudy days and night. A heat- and drought-tolerant plant requiring little care, it often self-sows, providing years of springtime beauty. California poppy is perennial in USDA zones 8-10; in other zones it is treated as an annual. Attracts pollinators.
