'Indigo Rose' was developed by Professor Jim Myers at Oregon State University to include anthocyanins (antioxidants that are beneficial to our health) in the fruits, unlike other tomatoes. Its 5' vines require support and produce plentiful 2-ounce fruits in clusters of 6 to 8. You'll find dozens of ways to eat these gorgeous purplish-brown fruits with red centers after you taste their balanced, sweet, acidic flavor! Allow to fully ripen before harvesting. This open-pollinated variety has high resistance to early blight and powdery mildew.

When to sow outside: Recommended for mild climates only. 1 to 2 weeks before average last frost, and when soil temperature is at least 60°F.

When to start inside: RECOMMENDED. 6 to 8 weeks before average last frost. Provide adequate light to produce sturdy plants.

Harvesting: Indigo Rose tomatoes are at the peak of sun-ripened deliciousness when purplish-black, and have a slight give when gently squeezed. About 1 month before the average first fall frost, clip all blossoms and any undersized fruit off the plant. This will steer all the plant's remaining energy into ripening what's left. If you have a lot of unripe tomatoes near the end of the season and a frost is approaching, pick them and store them indoors in a single layer away from direct sunlight to ripen.
